In the excellence initiative for the concentration of the German research and higher education area, which is initiated by the federal government and the federal states, methods of the “integrative production technique for high-wage countries” are developed in the excellence cluster of Aachen. FIR deals with the development of a configuration logistic for a targeted interpretation of a company-wide production system in the subcluster “individualised production”. Further, FIR deals with the realisation and application of company-wide transparency in value added networks in the subcluster “self optimizing production systems” (high resolution supply chain management).
FIR entrenches next to the book series “FIR edition praxis” two new series: “FIR edition research” and “FIR edition studies”. The project Smart Watts is supported in the promotion program E-energy of the Federal government as one of six outstanding projects.
The RWTH Aachen campus takes shape and FIR assumes responsibility in charge for the campus cluster logistic. This is one of the six so-called start-cluster the sweeping project for Aachen and the RWTH should be started with.
